Samyang 7679 (SMY-7679, SMY/7679, SMY 7679, SMY_7679, smy-7679) 85mm f1.8 ED UMC CS Lens - Fujifilm X Mount
This lens is for the ever-popular mirrorless cameras; it is designed for use with APS-C sensor mirrorless cameras in the following mounts: Sony E, Fujifilm X, Canon M, and Micro-Four-Thirds. With a competitive price and a compact, light-weight design, this lens inherits the renowned image quality of Samyang’s manual focus series.
The 85mm F1.8 ED UMC CS lens is manual focus medium telephoto lens that features 9 lens elements in 7 groups design that will deliver high resolution from the centre to the corners of the image. To help minimise chromatic aberrations and deliver clear, vibrant images, the lens has a high-refractive and an extra-low dispersion element, along with Ultra Multi-Coating (UMC).
A big benefit of a manual focus lens is reduced size and weight. This lens weighs in at just over 300g and measures approximately 8cm long (without the hood and lens caps).
The 85mm F1.8 ED UMC CS lens is best suited to portrait photography. Combining all the features above and then adding beautiful bokeh from a floating-element system, great low-light and shallow depth of field, the lens is a perfect portrait lens solution for APS-C CSC users.
This focal length can also be good for food photography, or other similar still life subjects, and street photography. Both these types of photography particularly suit a manual focus lens.
Well, being a street and landscape photography I tend to shoot a lot in manual focus. Lenses these days come with autofocus whether you like it or not so you end up having unnecessary weight. Samyang understands this and adding to their other MF lenses, which you can find here, it means they know people are after MF lenses for that reason. This 85mm lens is what has been missing and it really is an ideal portrait focal length, which on an APS-C size sensor will give equivalent to a 135mm range. Maybe a little too long for street photography but it depends on what style you have.
