Born on-set, it has evolved directly from the demands of cinematographers to either get low or move in tight spaces without sacrificing stability. James Saldutti, a Dolly Grip known as ‘Dutti’ in the Hollywood community, began developing this dolly nearly 15 years ago. Since that time, the Dutti Dolly has been used on hundreds of feature films, television shows and commercials. Through a partnership with Matthews, the Dutti Dolly is now commercially available. The design has been refined with a sturdy 1/2″ thick rectangular CNC’d aluminum platform and a built-in Mitchell mount. Measuring 20” x 24”, it rolls extremely low to the ground at just under 2” in height while remaining incredibly stable whether riding directly on smooth surfaces, or on rails. Its 8 inline skate wheels and universal stand brackets allow it ride smoothly on speed rail or on tubing found in a local hardware store such as round, square, angle or PVC. It’s perfect for smaller or traveling productions where fast set-ups are required and equipment is limited. Despite its small size, Dutti Dolly remains incredibly stable and adaptable. It can be mounted on the ground, on stands or apple boxes, over or underslung without the wobble seen on other small dollies. The compact footprint is easy to set-up and transport, yet large and durable enough for standing or sitting applications, and is compatible with mounting tripods, bazookas, tilt plates and other accessories. This heavy-duty camera positioning device allows you to place the camera anywhere within a 25” diameter circle without having to reposition the dolly, tripod, or car mount rig. The camera can be secured firmly for traveling shots, process trailers, or lock-off shots with the series of strategically placed ¼” and 3/8” tapped holes. The Lazy Suzy will support camera packages up to 70lbs (30kg). Additional accessories and adapters are available, making the mounting possibilities limitless. Each unit is made with 6161 T-6 black hard anodized aluminum. All steel parts are type 304 stainless steel. Bushings are made from black Acetal. All bolts, nuts, and washers are grade 18-8 stainless steel. The adjustment keys are made from steel with black power coat finish. Lazy Suzy is weather proof from minus 40f to plus 180f or minus 40c to 80c. Lubricant is never necessary. Mild soap and water is all that is needed for cleaning. Disclaimer – Like all such devices, common sense and judgment must be used. The Lazy must be properly locked down when used on moving vehicles. Triangulating the system on moving vehicles is highly recommended to ensure safety of those around as well as for camera stability. Both top and bottom plates have strategically placed ¼” and 3/8” tapped holes for triangulation.

Use in conjunction with the 4-Way Tilt Plate for interesting camera angles and a camera tie down strap to ensure proper safety precautions. Should you require a smaller vacuum cup for mounting your lights or camera, then the new 4-1/2" cup is recommended to fit into those tight places when either the 10" or 6" vacuum cup is too large.

Before there was artificial lighting the stages would revolve to allow for continuous overhead lighting from the sun. In later years, studios, grips and gaffers began to manufacture the earliest versions of what we now call C-Stands.
