The BM5WR is PortKeys’ new 5.5-inch 1080P flagship field monitor. It has HDMI and SDI inputs, and an SDI output with cross-conversion. If you need to monitor the sound, there is a 3.5mm output jack on the left. There is a USB port on the bottom of the monitor for future firmware upgrades.

For power, the BM5WR uses a single Sony NP-F battery. As with the SmallHD Focus monitor, you can use the BM5’s power output to power your camera from a virtual battery. Best of all, you have the option to power the monitor from an external battery using the Lemo port on the monitor and the included Lemo to D-Tap cable. The screen itself is a WLED panel, which is a marketing term for an LED panel, so the blacks should be nowhere near as good as an OLED panel.

In terms of construction, the PortKeys BM5WR is made entirely of aluminum. In front of the screen, there is a piece of tempered glass to protect it from shocks. It only weighs 350 grams, which is relatively light for a sturdy field monitor. The BM5WR can be viewed in daylight with a brightness of up to 2200 nits and a viewing angle of 178°.

To attach the BM5WR to your camera or gear, the display has a 1/4-inch hole on the bottom and one on the top. Additionally, “L-Brackets” such as SmallHD Focus are available as accessories to make it easier to mount the monitor to your camera.

The BM5WR supports resolutions up to 1080p at 60 frames per second.

Finally, there are four function buttons at the top of the display along with a menu button and a scroll wheel for navigating through the menus.
