The ALEXA Mini LF is optimized for large-format lenses, featuring an LPL lens mount compatible with ARRI Signature Primes, ARRI Rental DNA LF, 65 format optics, and third-party LPL lenses. The PL-to-LPL adapter (sold separately) ensures backward compatibility with all PL mount lenses, supporting Super 35 and full-frame. Metadata access is streamlined via LDS-2 or /i through the LPL mount, and LDS-1 or /i via the PL-to-LPL adapter. ARRI’s Frame Line and Lens Illumination Tool, available on the ARRI website, helps visualize sensor coverage with various lenses.
Several manufacturers, including Panavision and Vantage, offer proprietary lens mounts for the ALEXA LF and Mini LF, providing a wide array of lens choices for cinematographers.
ARRI Build Quality
With nearly a century of camera innovation, ARRI ensures that its cameras are robust, reliable, and easy to use. The ALEXA Mini LF continues this tradition of durability and user-friendliness, crafted for challenging professional environments.
ALEV Sensors
The ALEXA Mini LF is equipped with ARRI’s renowned ALEV III sensor, which delivers a film-like look and HDR capabilities. The sensor, originally designed for the ALEXA family, offers outstanding image quality, with the A2X version used in ALEXA LF and Mini LF, covering slightly more than "full frame."
Image Processing
ARRI prioritizes exceptional image quality across all its products. Software updates continuously enhance the image pipeline, ensuring that even previously recorded ARIRAW footage can benefit from new processing advancements.
Lens Mounts
ARRI’s LPL lens mount sets a new standard for large-format cinematography, allowing for precise and secure lens attachment, ensuring optimal image quality with various lenses.
Viewfinders
ARRI viewfinders deliver fast image display, high-quality visuals, and accurate color reproduction. With features like surround view and inherited characteristics from ARRI’s optical viewfinders, these devices meet the needs of professional camera operators.
Workflow
The term "workflow" encompasses everything from viewing to editing and processing footage. ARRI’s Software Development Kit (SDK) facilitates the processing of ARRIRAW data into RGB images and ensures compatibility with third-party tools, simplifying the post-production process.
ALEXA Mini LF
The ALEXA Mini LF merges the compact form of the ALEXA Mini with the large-format ALEXA LF sensor, offering flexibility and creative possibilities. Despite its small size, the Mini LF captures the same formats as the ALEXA LF, while utilizing Codex Compact Drives for efficient, cost-effective recording. It supports internal recording of MXF/ARRIRAW and MXF/Apple ProRes, boasts three motorized FSND filters, improved WiFi, multiple accessory power outputs, and a new MVF-2 HD viewfinder.
Built with a durable carbon body and designed to withstand extreme conditions, the ALEXA Mini LF endures rigorous testing before leaving ARRI's factory, ensuring long-lasting reliability. The camera also features user-friendly elements, including additional buttons, enhanced connectivity, and built-in microphones.
The Mini LF introduces the Codex Compact Drive, a lightweight and solid recording solution that can be easily integrated into workflows without additional software. Codex High Density Encoding (HDE) technology further improves large-format shooting efficiency by reducing ARRIRAW file sizes by approximately 40%, resulting in lower storage costs and faster workflows. HDE is freely available and significantly reduces both transfer times and overall costs.
MVF-2 Viewfinder
The new MVF-2 viewfinder, shared with the ALEXA LF, incorporates a high-contrast HD OLED display and an ARRICAM eyepiece for precise focus, dynamic range, and color assessment. The MVF-2 also features a 4-inch flip-out monitor, a refined user interface, and flexible cable options for remote operation, along with built-in eyepiece heaters and headphone connectors for added convenience on set.
