In response to the rising demand for vintage Cooke Speed Panchro lenses from the 1920s through the 1960s, Cooke Optics has released a contemporary reimagining of this iconic classic: the Cooke Panchro/i Classic T2.2 to T3.2 Prime lenses.

These new Panchro lenses stay true to the original look and character of the legendary Speed Panchro, capturing its renowned aesthetic while utilizing modern glass, optimized for today’s cameras. Additionally, the lenses come equipped with /i Technology, which provides frame-by-frame digital data capture, a feature shared by all of Cooke's modern cine lenses for film and digital production. Originally designed by Horace W. Lee in the 1920s, the Cooke Speed Panchro cine prime lenses were celebrated for their ability to enhance images under low-light conditions with a wide relative aperture.

Staying true to the iconic look of the original Speed Panchro, the new Panchro/i Classic lenses capture the same timeless aesthetic, now enhanced with modern glass optimized for today’s cameras. These lenses also feature /i Technology, which enables frame-by-frame digital data capture, consistent with all modern Cooke cine lenses for film and digital applications. Originally designed by Horace W. Lee in the 1920s, the first Cooke Speed Panchro cine prime lenses brought remarkable chromatic enhancement to images captured in low-light settings. With a relative aperture as wide as f2.0, they provided an angular field of view and definition that had previously been unattainable with smaller apertures, earning worldwide acclaim and a prominent place in cinema throughout the 20th century.

Technology

The Cooke Panchro/i Classic lenses come equipped with /i Technology, which provides production, VFX, and post-production teams with comprehensive lens data. These lenses, designed for all PL-mounted professional motion picture film and electronic cameras, offer cinematographers and camera operators valuable details on lens settings, including focusing distance, aperture, depth-of-field, hyperfocal distance, serial number, lens type, and focal length (available in both metric and imperial units). Additionally, /i Technology captures inertial tracking, shading, and distortion data, with zoom lenses displaying the zoom position.
