The Sony VENICE 6K Digital Motion Picture Camera offers a versatile design that allows users to configure the camera to meet their specific needs without unnecessary investment. At its core is a full-frame CMOS sensor boasting over 15 stops of dynamic range. In its basic setup, the sensor is windowed for Super 35 shooting. The camera comes equipped with a removable PL mount that supports Cooke /i Technology for lens metadata, making it compatible with a range of cinema lenses, from vintage to modern. It natively supports DCI and UHD 4K recording, with planned firmware updates unlocking additional capabilities, such as anamorphic shooting, full-frame capture, and variable frame rates from 1 to 72 fps.
Removing the PL mount reveals a Sony E-Mount with a locking ring, enabling users to mount their lens without rotating it, ensuring a secure attachment. The camera also features eight motorized ND filters, ranging from clear to seven stops of ND, adjustable in one-stop increments. Additional features include an assistant-side information screen and a smaller display for the operator, along with dual SxS card slots for recording XAVC or HD ProRes formats.

Sensor
The full-frame sensor delivers more than 15 stops of dynamic range, surpassing the BT.2020 color space and providing exceptional image quality that exceeds current and future specs.
Full-Frame Recording
With an optional firmware upgrade and license, the camera supports full-frame recording, utilizing the entire 6048-pixel width of the sensor for widescreen 2.39:1 or large format scope.
High-Speed Shutter
The VENICE's fast sensor readout minimizes the "jello" effect common with CMOS sensors.
PL and E-Mount Compatibility
The camera includes a PL mount for Super 35 and full-frame lenses, with support for both spherical and anamorphic options. The PL mount features contacts for Cooke /i Technology, enabling frame-by-frame lens metadata recording. The E-Mount, revealed by removing the PL mount, features a locking mechanism that secures the lens without rotating it, which is ideal for setups where time and stability are critical.
Recording Options
The VENICE records XAVC UHD 4K or HD ProRes to dual SxS card slots. With an optional AXS-R7 recorder, the camera will support 16-bit Raw and X-OCN recording to AXS cards after a planned firmware update.
