For unparalleled imaging performance in a compact camcorder, the HXR-NX800 uses a large, approximately 14.0-megapixel 1.0-type Exmor RS CMOS sensor. Its unique stacked structure allows faster readout speeds and superior low-light performance, thanks to back-illuminated pixels.

BIONZ XR image processing

Sony’s BIONZ XR image processor ensures higher frame rates, faster autofocus, enhanced Auto Tracing White Balance (ATW) control, and superior noise reduction. This powerful processor extracts maximum performance from the high-resolution image sensor, delivering stunning 4K (3840 x 2160) 60p video through 5K oversampling with full-pixel readout.

Enhanced White Balance Accuracy

With the help of the AI Processing Unit, the Auto Tracing White Balance (ATW) on the HXR-NX800 has been refined to offer more precise control, even in challenging lighting conditions such as shadows.

Advanced AI Processing Unit for next-generation AF

Working in conjunction with BIONZ XR, the specialized AI Processing Unit uses deep learning to recognize human subjects with high precision based on form and posture. The Fast Hybrid AF system, which covers 81% of the frame, supports Subject Recognition AF and Real-time Tracking, ensuring the NX800 can effortlessly follow subjects throughout the frame.

Auto Framing

With Auto Framing enabled, the camera tracks recognized human subjects and adjusts the framing so they remain prominently positioned. This feature allows solo operators to focus on engaging with interviewees, as the camera handles framing adjustments autonomously.

4K 120fps for stunning slow-motion footage

The Exmor RS sensor’s high readout speed enables 4K High Frame Rate (HFR) recording at up to 120fps and FHD at 240fps. You can achieve 4x slow motion in 4K at 30p or 5x slow motion at 24p. The high-speed AF system ensures your subject remains in focus throughout. Slow & Quick Motion** mode supports up to 4K 120fps and FHD 240fps recording.

20x optical zoom

The 20x G Lens™ optical zoom covers everything from wide-angle interviews to telephoto sports shots. With a zoom range of 24-480 mm (35mm full-frame equivalent), the lens also supports Sony’s Clear Image Zoom technology, offering 30x zoom in 4K and 40x zoom in FHD. You can explore apertures of F2.8 (wide) to F4.5 (telephoto), with smooth and silent zooming.

Advanced image stabilization

Minimize the effects of camera shake with built-in image stabilization. In Active Mode*, optical and electronic stabilization work together to create smooth, stable footage even in handheld shooting.

*Active Mode results in a slight image crop and is unavailable when recording at frame rates of 120 (100) fps or higher.

Built-in Electronic Variable ND Filter

The built-in Electronic Variable ND Filter adjusts seamlessly to different lighting conditions. You can move from 1/4 to 1/128 ND with a simple dial adjustment or rely on the Auto ND function to maintain the best exposure as you transition between environments.

Accurate LCD monitor and OLED viewfinder

The HXR-NX800 features a 3.5-type LCD monitor with approximately 27.6 million dots, offering outstanding brightness and clarity. The monitor can swing up and down as well as backward for a comfortable viewing angle. For clear viewing, the 0.39-type OLED viewfinder provides high contrast and approximately 23.6 million dots, blocking out extraneous light.

Compact design and storage

The HXR-NX800 is lightweight and compact, weighing approximately 1.93 kg (4 lb 4.1 oz.). When stored, its dimensions shrink for easier portability. The detachable microphone holder offers additional flexibility for travel.

Flexible camera control

Designed for maximum control, the HXR-NX800 features two independent control rings for focus/zoom and two dials for IRIS/ND Variable. It also has 12 assignable buttons for quick access to key functions, offering a customizable user experience.

AUTO/MANUAL switch

Adapt quickly to changing shooting conditions with the AUTO/MANUAL switch. In AUTO mode, the camera will automatically adjust key settings like ND Filter, Iris, Gain, Shutter, and White Balance.

Cinematic and broadcast base looks

Achieve cinematic or broadcast-quality visuals with pre-set looks like S-Cinetone, ITU709, 709tone, HLG Live, HLG Mild, and HLG Natural. You can also tweak black, matrix, and other settings to match the look of your production.

Multiple recording options

The HXR-NX800 offers a wide range of recording formats, including XAVC S-I for high-quality 10-bit 4:2:2 4K (QFHD) recording with Intra-Frame H.264, and XAVC HS-L (H.265) or XAVC S-L (H.264) for more efficient, extended recording times. Proxy recording in XAVC HS at up to 16 Mbps is also available, allowing for faster editing and previewing.

Wireless monitoring and remote control

The HXR-NX800 is compatible with BP-U35, BP-U70, and BP-U100 batteries, providing up to 120 minutes of continuous operation with the BP-U35. These batteries are also interchangeable with other Sony cameras.
