The Panasonic P2 card is a durable and reliable memory card specifically designed for broadcast and professional video production. It can withstand impacts up to 1,500 G and vibrations up to 15 G, making it suitable for use in harsh conditions. It can also operate in temperatures ranging from -20C to 60C and can be stored in temperatures as low as -40C and as high as 80C. These rugged specifications make the P2 card ideal for newsgathering on the go, as it eliminates the need for a transport mechanism and reduces the risk of mechanical damage that can occur with traditional videotapes. The P2 card also features a flash memory error correction system, similar to a RAID system, which greatly enhances its data retention reliability. It is also designed to comply with the PC card standard and can be easily mounted into the PC card slot of a laptop for data transfer.
When used with a P2 Drive, such as the AJ-PCD30 or AJ-PCD35, the P2 card can transfer recording data at speeds of up to 1.2 Gbps. It also supports writing speeds up to AVC-Intra Class 200 in the AVC-ULTRA family, a high-quality video compression codec specifically designed for professional use. The P2 card F series does not support all formats supported by AVC-Intra 200, but it does offer a card replacement interval of approximately five years when the entire data is rewritten once a day. The P2 card also features a rugged connector that has passed a mount and unmount test of 30,000 repetitions, proving its durability and reliability compared to ordinary PC cards. Overall, the Panasonic P2 card is a versatile and robust option for professional video production needs.
