Professional 4K Cameras and Camcorders
What does 4K actually mean?
4K resolution or Ultra HD (UHD) is a device or a content which has horizontal resolution in the order of 4000 pixels (3840 x 2160). Just for the comparison, HD’s use vertical resolution values like 1080 p.
The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) defines an Ultra HD as one that displays at least 8 million active pixels, with a lower resolution boundary of at least 3,840 by 2,160.
Depending on the variety, Ultra HD generally offers four times the resolution then the standard 1080 p. What does that mean? The quality of details and clarity of the picture will take you to the whole another level of perception. Watching a 4K image, footage, video or a movie on Discovery Channel, all the sea creatures and their surroundings on the ocean floor will give you an incredible experience of details, colours and clarity and you will immediately want to swim with them and touch them.
If you are a movie lover, it will immediately become funny and unimaginable how could we ever watch all that VHS blury movies while we were kids.
Image quality of Retina style tablets, smartphones and other gadgets is something that can compare with 4K; the colours and sharpness, contrasts and datails.
4K in broadcast industry
4K video cameras are in a similar position as HD cameras were about 10 years ago. 4K cameras don’t defer a lot from their HD precursors. They have almost the same design, settings and they can be mostly operated in the same way. On the contrary, choosing the right 4K camera can be a little tricky as every manufacturer makes their 4K cameras a bit different than another. The way that each 4K camera records can affect your work later in the production. Depending on your budget and which type of 4K camera will be the best for the goal you want to achieve, be sure to go through all the features a certain camera is offering.
