Introducing Blackmagic’s New 6K Pocket Cinema Camera: Specs and Need-to-Knows

You might remember that, last year, Blackmagic released its 4K Pocket Cinema Camera, which completely disrupted the world of cinematography with its forward-thinking, top-end tech. And this year, Blackmagic has pulled it out of the bag yet again with its incredible 6K Pocket Cinema Camera, complete with new and improved features that you won’t be able to say no to.

This blog will walk you through some of the camera’s best features, plus everything that you should pair with it. And, in the interests of speed, we’ll be referring to the camera as ‘Blackmagic’s 6K PCC’!

Blackmagic’s New 6K Pocket Cinema Camera’s most exciting features

There are so many great features that come with Blackmagic’s new 6K PCC that we couldn’t possibly cover them all, but here’s an overview of the most important and most exciting ones.

So without further ado, let’s begin!

High Resolution Cinematic Digital Film Sensor

It’s fair to say that Blackmagic has upped the standard of its 6K PCC with a native resolution of 6144 x 3456 as opposed to the 4K model, which had 4096 x 2160. This is a huge difference that really highlights the advancement from 4K to 6K. Moreover, the 13 stops of dynamic range and dual native ISO up to 25,600 minimises noise, meaning that great shots can be taken no matter what the lighting conditions.

Post Production Friendly Formats

One of the best things about Blackmagic’s 6K PCC is that the files are compatible with all post production software. It means that you don’t have to become bogged down in transcoding media. You can format media cards and disks in HFS+ for Mac and ExFAT for windows.

Expansive 5” Touchscreen for Quick and Accurate Focus

The Blackmagic PCC features a 5-inch touch screen to speed up the focusing process. So you can forget about carrying around your external monitor and viewfinder, because Blackmagic’s screen now does the job for you. The touchscreen also displays vital information while you’re shooting, which comes in very handy. Plus, the screen overlays also show key information such as status, a histogram, focus and peaking indicators, levels, frame guides, playback controls and much more, all of which you can experiment with at your leisure.

Shooting top quality HDR (High Dynamic Range) images

As previously mentioned, Blackmagic’s 6K has a fantastic 13 stops of dynamic range, meaning that it can preserve far more detail in the lightest and darkest areas of an image than your run-of-the-mill video camera can.
