Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve 12
After much talk and excitement over the past year, Blackmagic Design has finally released DaVinci Resolve 12 and it is the biggest leap forward in the software’s history.
Blackmagic has clearly put a lot of time, effort and money into this new release, admitting that they had one hundred software engineers working on the latest update. But what can we expect from DaVinvi Resolve 12?
While Resolve has been known as an industry standard colour grading system since the beginning of the 1980s, the new package sees the programme completely reworked to include a full nonlinear editing system, giving users the chance to edit, grade and finish their projects all within one single piece of software.
With over 80 new features in this latest instalment, standout additions to DaVinci Resolve 12 include a multi-camera toolset which allows editors to cut different clips from multiple sources in real time as well as synchronise them based on timecode, plus a 3D tracker which allows users to follow moving objects and alter their perspective.
These welcome new features come on top of a whole host of other additions, such as enhancements to the core editing tools, a new mixer, automatic colour analysis and improved colour grading, and finally a new set of correction tools including a more user-friendly curve interface.
There is a free version of Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve 12 with limited features available to users online. While this version of the software does not have the kind of support needed for larger scale projects it does allow users to get a feel for the software before going ahead with a purchase.
