Atomos Ninja Flame & Shogun Flame HDR Monitors & Recorders

To understand how the new Atomos Flame Recorders work, let’s remind ourselves with the basics first.

What is HDR?

HDR or High Dynamic Range is image processing technology that lets you shoot with the high brightness range of your camera’s Log profile while maintaining vibrant true-to-life colours.

Dynamic range is the ratio of the light to the dark in the image. HDR has better pixels rather then 4k which has more pixels, meaning HDR gives attention to colours and light of the image preferably then the amount of pixels. With HDR in action you don’t need 4k camera, only the camera with the Log feature.  HDR combines 3 images taken at different exposures. Using image editing software you can choose the best bits from each image to put those three images into one. Today, HDR is used in smartphones, iPhones, tablets etc. where HDR is done automatically.

Image looks more accurate to reality. In the near future, 4k TV’s will be compatible with HDR and will be reimplemented into live broadcast. It will be sellable technology and the movies will even look better at home then in the cinema. Atomos brings HDR to you.

AtomHDR will allow you to actually see what you are shooting and correctly expose for HDR without the rules of thumb or exposure charts.

Great things you can do with Atomos Shogun Flame

Shogun Flame is the improvement of the Atomos Shogun in nice, robust industrial design, built-in armour, continuous power, 2 battery slots and of course, RECK 709 screen technology – HDR. The rest of the features are the same. You have 7 inch nicely designed, more durable and superbright monitor to work with using 4000 nits of brightness to show HDR. It has great ability to monitor and shoot the footage and see the potential of the footage. Shogun flame has 10 bit panel which gets rid of banding. It uses 2 NPF style batteries and you will have 3-4 hours of full bright optimum filming. No sunhood is needed, aldough you will recieve it in the package as HDR is best seen in the dark.
